21st Century Books — All Time Favorites for Spiritual Seekers

THE BIG FOUR

We would expect that almost everyone owns and has read Autobiography of a Yogi, by Yogananda; The Science of Being and Art of Living, by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi; Commentary on the Bhagavad Gita, by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi; and I Am That, by Nisargadatta.

For those interested in the eternal wisdom of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, as expressed in his early lectures and compiled by TM Teachers, we highly recommend the series of little books and pamphlets published in Croatia.  These include Questions and Answer, Power of Silence, Ocean of Bliss, and any and all of the “pamphlets” we have available.

THE TEN CLASSICS YOU MAY NOT HAVE READ

These are not necessarily in order of preference. Reviews are available for you to peruse on our website: www.21stbooks.com

  1. A Search in Secret India, by Paul Brunton. Written in the 1920’s, a timeless classic loved by all.  This is the classic journey of a spiritual seeker, exquisitely written.
  2. India: Mirror of Truth, by Steve Briggs. A modern Yogi, from Fairfield; his autobiography has quickly become an all-time best-seller in our store.
  3. Sai Baba: Man of Miracles, by Howard Murphet. The story of the 20th Century’s most amazing Siddha.  If you like miracles this book is for you.
  4. The Concise Yoga Vasistha.  Many claim that by reading this book you get one step closer to enlightenment.
  5. Cave in the Snow, by Vicki Mackenzie. A truly remarkable story of the first western woman to become a Tibetan Buddhist Nun and her quest for enlightenment
  6. Be As You Are: The teachings of Ramana Maharshi, by David Godman.  Beloved by all who know him, Ramana Maharshi is one of the great saints of the 20th Century. This is an excellent review of his life and teachings
  7. Consciousness Speaks, Ramesh Balsekar. Balsekar is the greatest contemporary exponent of Advaita Vedanta. You may choose this and/or any of his 15 books.
  8. Spiritual Enlightenment: The Damnedest Thing, by Jed McKenna.  Tongue in cheek perhaps, but chock full of wisdom, and probably Tony’s favorite book of all time.
  9. Acceptance of What Is, by Wayne Liquorman. Wayne’s guru, Ramesh Balsekar said, “Wayne got it”.  This book proves that statement to be true.
  10. The Holographic Universe, by Michael Talbot. Certainly we had to include one book that shows how science and spirituality have converged in the 20th Century.

Those are our top 10 selections.  Had we gone deeper we would have included Still Here, by Ram Dass; The Story of Edgar Cayce: There is a River, by Thomas Sugrue; The Power of Now, by Eckert Tolle; Science and the Reenchantment of the Universe, by Ervin Laslo; and The Synchronized Universe: New Science of the Paranormal, by Claude Swanson, Ph.D.
